According to a CNN report, gunmen armed with automatic weapons attacked a synagogue and a church in the city of Derbent in Russia's southern Dagestan province. A priest and 6 policemen have died in this attack. Different media reports are making different claims about the number of people killed in this attack.

A priest was killed in an attack on a church

In this report, the head of the Dagestan Public Monitoring Commission, Shamil Khadulaev, has been quoted as saying that a priest died in the attack on the church. Along with this, 6 policemen have also lost their lives. In this attack, a police officer has been injured in the firing at the traffic post.

Shamil Khadulaev, chairman of the Dagestan Public Monitoring Commission, said that according to the information he received, Father Nikolay was murdered in a church in Derbent, his throat was slit. He was 66 years old and very ill. He also said that a security guard in the church, armed only with a pistol, was also shot dead.

Khadulaev said other priests had barricaded themselves in the church and were waiting for help. Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the synagogue, with huge flames and smoke billowing from windows on at least one floor of the building. However, officials say they are gathering information on the death toll.
