The student movement that started across the country against rigging and paper leaks in competitive examinations has once again reached a critical point. After the instructions given by the Supreme Court on the petitions related to the protesters, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has issued a strict ultimatum to the Central Government. The party clearly says that if the government does not withdraw all the FIRs registered against the students and youth involved in peaceful protests as per its written promise, then they will again start massive protests across the country.
Supreme Court’s decision: Relief to students without criminal records, but investigation will continue
A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant heard petitions related to the alleged use of force by the police during the paper leak protests. While granting interim relief, the apex court ordered that no punitive or coercive action be taken against the protesters who have no previous criminal history and who have protested peacefully. The court also directed the immediate release of students who were detained merely for participating in the protest. However, the Court has allowed Delhi Police and other state police to continue investigating the already registered cases, which has become a cause of concern for the CJP.
‘Repression may take place under the guise of court order’: CJP expressed deep apprehension
After the court order, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das expressed his sharp reaction on the social media platform X. He said that in the talks held with the central government on July 25, it was assured in writing that the cases registered against all the protesters would be canceled and no action would be taken in future. It was on the basis of this concrete assurance that the party ended its nationwide strike. Saurav Das alleges that now the central and state governments can continue police action against innocent students under the cover of this comment of the Supreme Court, which was being feared since the beginning.
Questions raised on the silence of government lawyers: Threat to restart the movement
The CJP questioned why the government lawyers did not oppose the continuation of the FIR during the court hearing when the protesters had been assured of security in the meeting with Union ministers. The party says that the government can itself withdraw the cases of peaceful protesters by using its jurisdiction. At the same time, party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka also alleged that in many states the police are still detaining students and violating the agreement. CJP has clearly said that if all the demands are not met immediately, the youth of the country will again take to the streets of the capital and other states.
From Jantar Mantar to Sansad March: Know how this entire movement started?
It is noteworthy that CJP had started its demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi from June 20, demanding an impartial investigation into the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case and the resignation of the then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. There were violent clashes between police and protesters during the ‘Parliament March’ on July 20, in which lathi charge and tear gas shells were fired. After this, two rounds of talks took place between the Central Government and CJP representatives, after which Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the post and the government agreed not to take action against the protesters and to give compensation to the families of the deceased students. Now, due to the FIR not being returned, the tension between the two sides has once again increased.
