Teenager Shang Juncheng made history by beating Olympic bronze medallist Lorenzo Musetti of Italy 7-6 (4), 6-1 in a first-set tiebreaker in the Chengdu Open men's singles final to become the second Chinese player to win an ATP title.
World number 55 and China's number 2 Shang has won a tournament for the first time in his career. He also became the youngest player to win an ATP title in the current season. Female player Li Na is China's most successful singles player. She won the French Open in 2011 and the Australian Open Grand Slam in 2014. Zheng Qinwen won the women's singles gold medal in the recently held Paris Olympics. Last year China's Wu Yibing won the Dallas Open trophy. With the championship, Shang has strengthened his claim for the Next Generation ATP Finals. The event will be played in Saudi Arabia in November and December and will feature the world's top 20 and under-20 singles players who have won ATP Tour titles.
