In a statement released, the Canadian side said Peel Regional Police responded to the clash during a demonstration at the temple. Police have launched an investigation into several incidents during the protests, in which videos showed people being attacked with flags and sticks. Detectives from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Strategic Investigations Team (SIT) have arrested Indrajit Gosal, of Brampton, and charged him with assault with a weapon, Peel police said in a statement. 'Security at the Canadian High Commission here in Delhi has been beefed up.

Arrested accused SFJ coordinator

According to 'Toronto Star', Gosal is the coordinator of 'Sikhs for Justice (SFJ)' in Canada. SFJ is banned in India. The statement said Gosal was arrested on November 8. He is accused of assault with a weapon. Gosal has been released conditionally and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date. SIT has been formed to investigate the criminal incidents that took place during the incident of November 3 and 4. On 3 November, protesters carrying Khalistani flags clashed with people and disrupted an event jointly organized by the temple authorities and the Indian Consulate.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned Sunday's incident and said every Canadian has the right to practice their religion freely and safely. The Indian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that New Delhi is extremely concerned about the safety of Indian citizens in Canada.
