Jerusalem: Lakhs of Haj pilgrims have gathered in Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia for the Haj pilgrimage. Meanwhile, the pilgrims are also facing severe heat. The situation has become such that a total of 550 Haj pilgrims have died due to heat in Mecca. Of these, the highest number of 323 are from Egypt while the rest are from different countries. Extreme heat and rising temperatures have been blamed for the death of all these pilgrims.

A diplomat confirmed all the deaths, saying all but one of Egypt's 323 Hajj pilgrims died due to heat. One pilgrim was injured during the stampede. These figures came from the hospital morgue in Al-Muysam near Mecca.

60 people from Jordan also became victims of extreme heat

At least 60 Jordanians also died, according to diplomats, while 41 deaths were officially reported by Amman on Tuesday. With the latest figures, the total number of deaths so far across several countries has reached 577, news agency AFP reported. A total of 550 bodies were kept at Al-Muassam, one of Mecca's largest morgues, diplomats said.
