Temperatures in Delhi cross 50 degrees, water crisis creates panic

The heat in the capital Delhi has broken the record of the last 100 years. On 28 May (Tuesday), the temperature in Delhi's Mungeshpur and Narela was recorded at 49.9 degrees Celsius. In Najafgarh, the mercury reached 49.8 degrees. In Churu, Rajasthan, the temperature was recorded at 50.5 degrees. According to the Meteorological Department, Delhiites will not get relief from this scorching heat for a few days.

Meanwhile, the water crisis in Delhi has also deepened. Water supply has stopped in many areas of Delhi. Keeping this in mind, the government has decided that areas where water is supplied twice a day, will now get water only once a day. The rest of the water will be given to those areas where water is not supplied. The government has also appealed that Delhiites should not wash their cars with open pipes and avoid filling water from tanks. A fine can also be imposed for misusing water. At the same time, Delhi government minister Atishi alleged that the Haryana government has reduced the water supply in Yamuna from May 1. The government can also approach the court for this.

Delhi government minister Atishi said that on an average, 674.5 feet of water remains in Yamuna during the summer months. Last year, the water level in Wazirabad was always the same in the months of April, May and June. But this year, since May 1, Haryana has reduced its share in the supply of water to Delhi and the water level of Yamuna is continuously falling. On May 1, the water level of Yamuna was 674.5 feet, which decreased to 669.8 feet on May 28. This has increased the water crisis in Delhi. In view of this, precautionary measures are being taken.

Atishi said that we have doubled the time of running borewells to meet the water shortage. The borewells which used to run for 6-7 hours are now running for 14 hours. The number of water tankers has also been increased. Since the water level in the Yamuna river is constantly decreasing, we will have to take some more steps from today. From today, water supply has been reduced to twice a day in some parts of Delhi. Now water will be supplied only once a day in these areas. The water supplied the second time will be saved and sent to those areas where there is no water at all, where water is coming for 15-20 minutes. The water will be collected the second time and supplied to the more affected areas.

Atishi said, today we cannot leave some parts of Delhi with absolutely zero water supply. Her appeal is that water should be used rationally. Do not waste any kind of water. Do not wash your vehicles from open pipes, there should be no supply of water for washing vehicles. Water should not overflow from tanks. Avoid waste at home as much as possible every day. Manage water well. If wastage of water is not stopped, then there can be a challan as well.
