Thursday was the hottest day recorded this season. The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast that the temperature will go even higher than this today and tomorrow. There is also a forecast of heat wave on Saturday.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature of the capital was recorded at 42.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, two degrees Celsius more than normal. This is the highest so far this season. Earlier on May 8, the maximum temperature was recorded at 42 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 24.8 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal. The humidity level in the air remained from 65 percent to 25. Mungeshpur was the hottest area of Delhi. The maximum temperature here was recorded at 44.4 degrees Celsius.
The department has forecast that today it will be partly cloudy, but it will also be sunny. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 43 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively. There is a possibility of heat wave at different places in the capital on Saturday. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 45 degrees Celsius. According to the department, on Thursday the maximum temperature recorded was 43.5 degrees Celsius in Palam, 43.5 in Ayanagar, 43.7 in Jafarpur, 44.2 in Najafgarh, 44.4 in Mungeshpur, 44.2 in Pitampura and 44.2 degrees Celsius in Pusa. The good thing is that this year the onset of monsoon is likely to happen a day before time.
The India Meteorological Department has said that the south-west monsoon is expected to hit Kerala around May 31. The south-west monsoon generally enters Kerala on 1 June. After this it generally moves north and spreads over the entire country around July 15. Last month, the department had predicted above normal rainfall during the south-west monsoon season that runs from June to September. June and July are considered the most important monsoon months for agriculture. Kharif crops are sown during this period. The India Meteorological Department has predicted above average monsoon rainfall this year. Secretary of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, M. Ravichandran has said that this year the average rainfall is expected to be 106 percent.
