The ongoing snowfall in Himachal Pradesh for the last two days has covered the entire area with a white sheet. Especially in Shimla and Manali, the situation is as if people are enjoying a white Christmas. However, a huge drop in temperature has been recorded due to snowfall. Kukumseri in Lahaul and Spiti was the coldest during this period, where the night temperature dropped to minus 6.9°C.
Life affected due to snowfall, 233 roads closed
Due to heavy snowfall, life has become disrupted in Himachal Pradesh.
- Road conditions:
- 233 roads including three national highways are closed.
- Maximum 145 roads were closed in Shimla.
- Kullu: 25 roads.
- Mandi: 20 roads.
- Atal Tunnel closed:
Atal Tunnel has been closed due to heavy snowfall. At present tourists can go only till Solang. - Tourists stranded:
There are long lines of vehicles on the roads. Due to snowfall, vehicles are slipping intermittently, making the situation worse.
Accidents during snowfall: 4 people died
This journey is also proving dangerous for the tourists who have come to enjoy the snowfall of Himachal Pradesh.
- Four people have died in vehicle slipping incidents.
- Himanshu, a tourist from Delhi, died after his car fell into a drain from Hanogi bridge. Himanshu was only 22 years old and was a resident of South West Delhi.
- The Meteorological Department had already advised not to drive during snowfall.
Dense fog in Delhi, visibility reduced to 100 meters
Amidst snowfall in Himachal, cold and dense fog continues to wreak havoc in Delhi.
