Tejas Shirse breaks national record in 110m hurdles, Yaraji misses Paris Olympic qualification

New Delhi, May 23 (HS). Tejas Shirase created a new national record in the men's 110m hurdles during the World Athletics Continental Tour (Challenger Level) meeting in Jyväskylä, Finland on Wednesday.

21-year-old Shirase clocked 13.41 seconds in the final, breaking the previous national record of 13.48 seconds set by Siddhant Thingalaya in 2017. Shirase's record is subject to the normal ratification process.

However, the entry standard for the men's 110m hurdles for the Paris Olympics is 13.27 seconds.

In the women's 100 meters hurdles, Jyoti Yaraji equaled her national record mark of 12.78 seconds and finished first, missing automatic qualification for the Olympic Games by one hundredth of a second.

Animesh Kujur set a new personal best in 100m and finished second with a timing of 10.39 seconds. Amlan Borgohain finished fourth with his season's best timing of 10.54 seconds. The entry standard for the men's 100 meters at the Paris Olympics is 10 seconds.

Mohammed Afsal won the men's 800m event in 1:48.91 seconds, well below his personal best of 1:46.17 seconds.

18-year-old long jumper Pavana Nagaraj finished fifth with a best effort of 6.06 metres.

At the Trond Mohn Games, a World Athletics Continental Tour (silver level) event in Bergen, Norway, long jumper Shaili Singh finished second among seven athletes with a best effort of 6.12m.
