Guwahati, 17 February (HS). In its continuous endeavor to make train journeys more safe and secure, North East Frontier Railway (NUFR) is continuously implementing state-of-the-art measures to technologically upgrade and maintain the track signaling system. This process has been done in all the five divisions of Pusire i.e. Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangiya, Alipurduar and Katihar, so that unprecedented incidents like accidents etc. can be avoided.
PUSIRE regularly performs a number of automated tests on the signaling system to detect and correct human errors. In addition, upgrades as well as replacements and new installations are carried out in signaling systems whenever and wherever necessary.
As a part of Indian Railways' initiative, PUSIRE has executed various signaling upgradation systems at several stations and sections of the division, Sabyasachi Dey, CPRO, PUSIRE, said in a statement issued on Saturday. “System Integrity Test” of Electronic Interlocking/Panel Interlocking has been conducted at Lanka Station and out of 4759 schematic drawings related to Logic Interface, Cable Route Plan, Cable Termination Chart, Track Bonding Plan etc., 4628 drawings have been completed by January 2024. .
He said that PUSIRE also installed 2.06 km of new signaling cables at Sabroom, Guwahati and Narangi stations under Lumding division along with replacement of 3.260 km of signaling cables at Titabar, Farkating and Panitola railway stations under Tinsukia division. Signal LEDs at six stations i.e. New Karimganj, Karimganj, Dharmanagar of Lumding division, Nalbari of Rangiya division and Raiganj and Kaliyaganj stations of Katihar division were also replaced with integrated type LEDs. Changes in electronic interlocking at Karimganj and New Karimganj stations have also been made for commissioning of UFSBI between Karimganj – Mahishasan block section under Lumding division.
Sabyasachi Dey said that the Railway Signaling System ensures safe operation of trains and its reliability and maintenance directly impacts the capacity and availability of railway connectivity. Signaling refers to the communication system that uses signals to control the movement of trains and provide information to drivers and operators. In contrast, interlocking is a mechanism that coordinates the systematic functioning of signals, switches and other equipment to prevent conflicting activities and ensure safe movement of trains.
