Team India: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jai Shah has made a shocking revelation. According to a report, Jay Shah has confirmed that BCCI is looking for a new head coach and is going to release the application for his appointment soon. At present, the head coach of Team India is former legendary batsman Rahul Dravid.
Dravid's tenure had ended after the ODI World Cup 2023 but due to the excellent performance of the team, his contract was extended but now it seems that Dravid will not get an extension and the board will soon announce the new coach. According to the report, Jai Shah said, 'Rahul's tenure is only till June. Therefore, if he wants to come back to this post, he will have to apply again for it.
Shah further informed that other members of the coaching staff such as batsmen, bowlers and fielding coaches will be selected after the suggestions of the new coach. We cannot decide whether the new coach will be an Indian or a foreigner. This will be determined by the CAC. The new coach will be appointed for a long tenure and will work for an initial period of three years.
Regarding different head coaches for different formats, Jay Shah said that the decision on this will be taken by CAC. India has all-format players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant, India does not have such a situation. The T20 World Cup will be played next month in June, hosted by West Indies and America. Meanwhile, this decision of BCCI is shocking. However, the new coach will be appointed only after the World Cup. Dravid was appointed the head coach of Team India in November 2021.
During Dravid's two-year tenure, the Indian team performed brilliantly and became the number 1 team in the team format for the first time in the history of cricket. Apart from this, the team also reached the finals of ODI World Cup and World Test Championship. Apart from this, India won the Asia Cup title and reached the semi-finals in T20 World Cup 2022.
