Hamirpur, 17 August (HS). Teak will now brighten the fortunes of thousands of farmers on the land of Bundelkhand. After investing once, farmers will earn lakhs of rupees in a few years. In twenty-one villages of the entire region, more than eleven hundred farmers have planted thousands of teak saplings on unused land, which are now growing continuously. Teak will not only make farmers self-reliant but will also protect the environment of the region.
Every year, farmers in Bundelkhand region suffer huge losses due to natural calamities. Due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms that wreak havoc on Kharif and Rabi crops, the farmers here are forced to live a miserable life. Sometimes drought shatters the hopes of farmers engaged in agriculture, and due to irrigation and other problems, the fields in many areas of Bundelkhand remain empty without any sowing. In such a situation, farmers face the threat of starvation. On the initiative of Devendra Gandhi, secretary of Samarth Foundation NGO, which has been working on the ground for farmers and poor people engaged in agriculture in Hamirpur district for the last two decades, farmers in Bundelkhand had bet on teak a few years ago.
The NGO secretary said that Ramesh Singh, the chief scientist of ACRISET Hyderabad, had advised farmers to plant teak trees to change their lives, due to which thousands of farmers planted teak trees on unused land. Now the teak trees are growing continuously. The teak trees planted in twenty-one villages of Bundelkhand have grown quite big. But earning from them will be possible in the coming few years. The NGO secretary says that after seven to eight years, farmers will earn lakhs of rupees every year from the teak trees planted in the previous area.
With the help of ACRISET NGO, farmers have planted teak trees in the entire area
Devendra Gandhi, Secretary of Samarth Foundation NGO told that in Jalaun 200 farmers have planted 11 thousand teak trees, whereas in Lalitpur 150 farmers have planted 9 thousand, in Jhansi 300 farmers have planted 12 thousand, in Banda 250 farmers have planted 7 thousand, in Mahoba 250 farmers have planted 13 thousand, in Chitrakoot 150 farmers have planted 17 thousand and in Hamirpur 32 farmers have planted 5 thousand teak trees. He told that the farmers have been given free trees by the organization. The work of bunding in the fields has also been done by the organization.
A big initiative has been started to make farmers self-reliant in 21 villages of Bundelkhand
Devendra Gandhi, Secretary of Samarth Foundation NGO, said that Kisan Mitra programs are being run in 21 villages of all the seven districts of Bundelkhand to double the income of farmers. In which bunding, gardening and teak trees are being planted in the fields. These programs are being run in three villages in Sumerpur block of Hamirpur. Here more than two dozen farmers have planted teak trees on their fields and bunds. In the next few years, farmers will earn lakhs of rupees from teak.
In the coming times, teak will change the fate of thousands of farmers in Bundelkhand
Devendra Gandhi, Secretary of Samarth Foundation, said that the life of farmers doing farming is very easy. In such a situation, due to the initiative of ACRISET NGO, the farmers of Bundelkhand have bet on teak, which will improve the life of farmers in the coming time. Scientists of ACRISET Hyderabad had done research in Bundelkhand region, in which it was seen that in most areas the farmers' fields remain empty. Planting teak trees on the boundaries of the fields will generate additional income as well as water conservation will also be possible.
