Dhaka, August 12 (HS). The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday included Taskin Ahmed in the 15-player squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan. The Test series is scheduled to start from August 21 in Rawalpindi.

Taskin, who last played a Test in June 2023, had taken a break from red-ball cricket to prioritise his recovery after a shoulder injury, and has recently been keen to return to red-ball cricket. The BCB insisted he is capable of playing cricket for a long time.

On the selection of the fast bowler, National Selection Panel chairman Ghazi Ashraf Hussain said, “We have selected five fast bowlers keeping in mind the fact that Taskin Ahmed will play only the second Test. He has not played any Test since June last year and we have decided to include him in the 'A' team for the second four-day match against Pakistan A to get him into the rhythm for long-running matches.”

“Also, some of the fast bowlers might join the A team for the one-day matches, so we needed backup. We have variety in our attack, with bowlers who can bowl fast and also swing the ball and I am really looking forward to seeing them perform against world-class batsmen,” he added.

The Bangladesh A team is currently playing a series in Pakistan consisting of two four-day games and three one-day matches.

The Bangladesh team will leave for Pakistan on August 12 for two matches of the ICC World Test Championship. These matches will be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi. The first Test will start on August 21 while the second match will start on August 30.

The team, which travelled ahead of schedule due to the political crisis in the country, will assemble in Lahore and train at the Gaddafi Stadium from August 14-16 before heading to Islamabad for the first Test on August 17.

Bangladesh squad is as follows: Nazmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Zakir Hasan, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Liton Kumar Das, Mehdi Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nayeem Hasan, Nahid Rana, Shoriful Islam, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, Syed Khaled Ahmed.
