After becoming a Union Territory, Jammu and Kashmir has got its first government. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir got its first Chief Minister and first elected government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah. Along with CM Omar, five other ministers also took oath as ministers. Surinder Singh Chaudhary's name is also included in the list of these five ministers. Surendra Chaudhary has been made Deputy CM in the Omar government. Omar Abdullah has achieved many goals by making Surendra Chaudhary the Deputy CM.
Balance of power in Kashmir Valley and Jammu region
National Conference once had great influence in every area of Jammu and Kashmir. In the 21st century the image of the party became that of Kashmir Valley Party. The National Conference has alleged that the Jammu region was neglected when it was in power. Even before the swearing-in of the Omar Abdullah government, how the National Conference will maintain a balance in the Valley and Jammu region has been a subject of debate. While Omar Abdullah, who hails from the Valley, holds the reins of the government, the party has now tried to strike a balance between the two regions by giving the number two post in the government, i.e. the post of Deputy CM, to Surinder Singh Chaudhary. Who comes from Jammu region.
A message for the Hindu community
National Conference has also tried to give a positive message to Hindu voters by making Surinder Singh Chaudhary the Deputy CM. After the exodus of Hindus from Kashmir Valley, the National Conference's hold on the Hindu vote bank started weakening. Even before the BJP's strong lead in the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir elections, parties such as the Congress and the Panthers Party had strong influence in the Hindu-majority Jammu region, and the National Conference's presence extended to five Muslim-majority districts of the region. In which it seemed limited to Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban. Now the National Conference has included two ministers from Jammu region in the Omar cabinet and made Surendra Chaudhary the Deputy CM, which is also being seen as an attempt to regain its lost hold in the Hindu society.
Reward for defeating Ravinder Raina
In the assembly elections, Surinder Singh Chaudhary has been elected from Nowshera assembly seat of Rajouri district. Surendra Chaudhary defeated Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina from Nowshera seat. Surinder Singh Choudhary has got the reward of defeating the biggest face of BJP in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as Deputy Chief Minister. In the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Surinder Singh Chaudhary and Ravinder Raina also contested from Nowshera seat. Then a fight broke out between the two leaders. Ravinder Raina was also injured. Then Ravinder Raina had won. This time Surendra Chaudhary has won.
These leaders also became ministers
Independent MLA from Chhamb seat, Satish Sharma has also been made a minister in the Omar Abdullah cabinet. Chhamb assembly seat also falls in Jammu district. There are 11 assembly seats in Jammu district and BJP candidates have won 10 of them. It is also being said that Omar Abdullah's strategy behind making the only non-BJP MLA from Jammu district a minister is to create a political base. Other faces in the Omar Abdullah cabinet include Sakina Yettu, Javed Dar and Javed Rana.
