Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Former Indian Ambassador to America Taranjit Singh Sandhu joined BJP on Tuesday. There is a possibility that he will be fielded from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat. Aam Aadmi Party has made Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal its candidate from Amritsar. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress's Gurjit Singh Aujla defeated Hardeep Singh Puri by about 1 lakh votes. The 1988 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer hails from Amritsar.
Election from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat can fight
BJP was looking for a Sikh face for Amritsar seat. Sandhu not only has a clean image but as an ambassador he also has good relations with the Indian diaspora. Due to this, he is being honored in America before his retirement. Apart from being a Sikh, he is also a resident of Amritsar. Earlier, BJP had fielded Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer Jagmohan Singh Raju in the assembly elections.

It is noteworthy that BJP's probable candidate from Amritsar parliamentary seat, Taranjit Singh Sandhu met Foreign Minister Dr. Had a meeting with S Jaishankar. He had said that soon the American Consulate would be opened in Amritsar. He had said that two more new consulates are to be opened in India by the American government. One of them will be opened in Amritsar, External Affairs Minister Dr. Jaishankar has assured. Sandhu had said that with the opening of the American Consulate in Amritsar, people from the border areas will get visas, businessmen will expand their business and people of both the countries will be able to connect with each other.
