Barabanki, June 04 (HS). Counting of votes in Barabanki Lok Sabha seat has now ended. After 32 rounds of counting, Indy alliance candidate Tanuj Punia has won by about 02 lakh 15 thousand 656 votes. He has defeated BJP candidate Rajrani Rawat.
Congress candidate Tanuj Punia got a total of 07 lakh 19 thousand 927 votes, while BJP candidate Rajrani Rawat got 5 lakh, 4 thousand, 223 votes. In this way, Congress candidate Tanuj Punia won the election by 2 lakh 15 thousand 412 votes.
Counting of votes began at 8 am in the morning, whether it was portal ballot or EVM, BJP candidate Rajrani Rawat was lagging behind from the beginning. The BJP candidate could not get ahead of Congress-Indy alliance candidate Tanuj Punia in even a single round.
It is noteworthy that before this, BJP candidates had won the elections on this seat twice in a row by a margin of lakhs. In 2014, Priyanka Singh Rawat won the election from BJP, while in the 2019 elections, current MP Upendra Singh Rawat won the election.
In the 2024 elections, BJP candidate Upendra Singh Rawat was given a ticket by the BJP, but when his objectionable video went viral, the BJP cancelled his ticket and gave the ticket to Rajrani Rawat, who was also the District Panchayat President from the BJP. And ultimately she lost the election, even though 67 percent of the votes were cast in Barabanki.
This district had the highest vote percentage in Uttar Pradesh. Barabanki was earlier considered the stronghold of Congress and SP, but later both BJP and SP developed their strong base here. In the 17 Lok Sabha elections held on this seat since independence, Congress has won six times, SP four times, BJP three times and BSP once.
