Congress press conference: Congress today organized a press conference in the presence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. In this press conference, Sonia Gandhi targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party government and accused PM Modi of trying to weaken Congress economically.
Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi said, “This issue not only affects the Congress, but it also fundamentally affects our democracy. There is a planned attempt by the Prime Minister to weaken the Indian National Congress financially. The collected money is being forcibly withdrawn from our accounts.”
He further said, “Even in these extremely challenging circumstances, we are trying our best to maintain the effectiveness of our election campaign. On the one hand, there is the issue of electoral bonds which has been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. BJP benefited a lot from this.” From electoral bonds. On the other hand, the finances of the main opposition party Congress are being attacked. We all agree that this is unprecedented and undemocratic.”
Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi said, “All the accounts of Congress have been frozen before the elections. What happens when your entire financial identity is wiped? The same has been done with Congress also. We cannot support our workers, we cannot support our candidates, we cannot even transport our leaders from one place to another by train. This has been done before the elections.”
The Congress MP further said, “One notice is from the 90s, the other is from 6-7 years ago. The amount of Rs 14 lakh and the punishment – our entire economic identity… even the Election Commission did not say anything… already, “Our ability to contest elections has been compromised.” The damage has been done, we have lost a month.”
