Dehradun, 01 August (HS). Sitar player Rabin Karmakar working in the music section of All India Radio Dehradun has been awarded the top grade in classical music (sitar playing) by the Directorate General of All India Radio. Top grade is the highest grade given by All India Radio in the field of music. Rabin Karmakar is the first sitar player from Uttarakhand state to receive the top grade.
Rabin has delighted music lovers with his sitar playing on various platforms across the country. On 27 July 1995, Rabin Karmakar started his career as a staff artist in Akashvani Najibabad. Since 20 June 2017, Rabin Karmakar has been serving in Akashvani Dehradun Center. Rabin Karmakar was awarded 'A' grade in sitar playing in the year 2013. According to the tradition of Akashvani, he has now received the title of Pandit.
It is worth noting that Top Grade is the highest grade given by Akashvani in the field of music. Rabin Karmakar is the first sitar player from Uttarakhand state to receive the Top Grade.
Born in Kolkata, Rabin Karmakar started learning sitar from his father Nakul Karmakar at a very young age. Later, Rabin learned the nuances of sitar from Pandit Vishwanath Chatterjee and then Pandit Shyamal Chatterjee and acquired knowledge of various ragas.
