New Delhi, June 1 (HS). The Twenty20 World Cup will begin in Dallas with a match between traditional rivals USA and Canada. However, all eyes will be on New York, where India will play its only practice match on Saturday at 8 pm Indian time. Even though the Indian team is finalizing its XI for the championship, the organizers will be the most nervous rather than the players and teams.
This is the first time the Cricket World Cup is being held in New York, and the India-Bangladesh match will serve as a dress rehearsal for the International Cricket Council (ICC), which has invested heavily in the new New York venue. The ICC has sold over 7,000 tickets for the match, and most importantly, the match will be broadcasted live on Disney Star and Hotstar in India.
The 36,000-capacity Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York will host eight games, including the big India-Pakistan match on June 9.
Only four players attended India's net session
Meanwhile, the Indian team held a training session at Canting Park but only four players attended it. “It was an optional session, so attendance was not mandatory,” a team official said.
Rishabh Pant, Rinku Singh, Mohammed Siraj and Avesh Khan took part in the net sessions, with the entire support staff led by Rahul Dravid present.
Virat Kohli, who joined the team on Friday morning, did not attend, which is understandable considering his long flight from India. It is learned that the team management will decide on the field on Saturday whether to include Kohli in the playing XI or not. India will play their first match against Ireland on June 5 in New York.
