T20 World Cup: Arshdeep Singh broke Ashwin's 10-year-old record

New York, June 13 (HS). Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh achieved a special feat in the T20 World Cup and broke off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin's 10-year-old record.

Arshdeep took 4 wickets for 9 runs in his 4 overs against USA on Wednesday in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 and broke Ashwin's ten-year-old record.

Ashwin's 4 for 11 against Australia at Mirpur in 2014 was his best World Cup figure for India. Harbhajan Singh slipped to third place after taking 4 for 12 against England at Colombo in 2012.

Arshdeep got the most benefit from Indian captain Rohit Sharma's decision to bowl after winning the toss.

He struck a double blow to USA in the very first over of the game when he dismissed Shayan Jahangir for zero and Andris Gaus for 2, putting the hosts under pressure. However, Steven Taylor and Nitish Kumar then brought USA back into the match, Rohit brought Arshdeep back into the attack and he dismissed the dangerous batsman Nitish for 27, leaving USA at 81 for 5. Arshdeep picked up his fourth wicket of the match when he dismissed Harmeet Singh and finished his spell with figures of 4/9.

In the last over, USA batsmen Jasdeep Singh and Shadley van Schalkwyk scored 7 runs to take their team's score to 110/8.

In reply, India lost the wickets of Virat Kohli (00), Rohit Sharma (03) and Rishabh Pant (18) for just 39 runs. From here, Suryakumar Yadav (50 runs, 49 balls, 2 fours and 2 sixes) scored an unbeaten half-century and Shivam Dubey (31 runs, 35 balls, 1 four and 1 six) helped India achieve the target in 18.2 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.
