Switzerland star player Xherdan Shaqiri has retired from international football after the conclusion of Euro Cup 2024. He announced the end of his 14-year-long journey through social media.
The 32-year-old was also selected in the Swiss team for the recent Euro Cup in Germany. His team lost in the quarter-final round. In club football, Shaqiri Bakkal played for Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Stoke City, Liverpool and Lyon. He currently plays in Major League Soccer for Chicago Fire FC. The Swiss team beat Italy 2-0 in the Euro Round of 16 but lost to England in the quarter-finals after losing 5-3 in the penalty shootout. Shaqiri scored only one goal and led his team to the knockouts. Playing as a midfielder, Shaqiri made his debut for Switzerland in 2010. He has scored 32 goals in 125 career matches. He has also played in the FIFA World Cup for the Swiss team between 2010 and 2022.
