New Delhi, October 2 (HS). Today the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 10 years.
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a national level campaign, whose objective is to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure and keep the garbage clean. This campaign was launched on October 2, 2014. Under this, till now 5.54 lakh villages have got the status of open defecation free. With this, more than 11.65 crore household toilets have been constructed.
BJP President JP Nadda said on social media that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which has brought qualitative change in the lives of people by making cleanliness a mass movement in the country, has completed 10 years. Congratulating the countrymen who were engaged in making this campaign historic, JP Nadda said that this campaign started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the lives of scores of people of the country and has received global appreciation. This is proof that when all the countrymen come together for a common cause, positive change takes shape in the entire nation.
Women have benefited a lot from this campaign. According to a UNICEF report, due to the steps taken under the Swachh Bharat Mission, 93 percent women have no fear of animals or other dangers while defecating. 93 percent of women said that now they are no longer afraid of infection or getting sick. With this, countless lives have been saved over the years from diseases caused by dirt. According to the World Health Organization report, 3 lakh diarrhea deaths have been prevented between 2014-2019. A significant reduction in maternal and child mortality has also been seen due to cleanliness.
