Filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor worked with Sushant Singh Rajput in films like Kedarnath and Kai Po Che. In a recent interview, Kapoor recalled the time he spent with Sushant and revealed that Sushant was 'upset' during the shooting of his 2018 film Kedarnath.
“I remember when we auditioned Sushant, he was very overweight and my condition with him was that I showed him a picture of an American actor and said, 'You have to look like this because you are a cricketer.' He won't say much. He was not a person who spoke much. But in 3 months, he worked very hard and he would reach there at six in the morning for cricket practice, gym training and by the end of it, he looked the same,” Abhishek said while speaking to Siddharth Kannan.
The filmmaker further recalled how Sushant used to shoot in freezing conditions, which also inspired Sara Ali Khan. “Sushant showed the way. First he did this and the next day Sara saw him doing this and she also realized that okay if this boy is doing this then I will also do it. This is what inspired him to do this,” he said.
Kapoor further claimed that Sushant was 'distressed' during the shooting of Kedarnath and argued that the actor looked 'alienated and helpless'. “He was a little worried in those days. He was a very strong person mentally and physically and could face anything. He was a great guy. I think he was feeling very isolated and quite helpless. He was moving away,” he said.
Released in 2018, Kedarnath was a romantic drama set against the backdrop of the deadly floods that hit North India in 2013. In the film, SSR played the role of a Muslim man named Mansoor Khan who falls in love with Sara Ali Khan, the daughter of a Hindu priest.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment in 2020.
