Kanpur, 24 October (Hindustan Reporter). BJP has once again expressed confidence in Suresh Awasthi in the by-election being held on Sisamau assembly seat. Although the margin of his defeat in 2017 was not very high, there was a long list of contenders. Naseem Solanki, wife of former SP MLA Irfan Solanki, is the candidate. BSP has also fielded its candidate in the by-election this time, but it is believed that there will be a direct contest between SP and BJP.

This time, BJP has used its full strength to win the Sisamau assembly seat, which became vacant after SP's Irfan Solanki was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment from the court. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had first made it clear by holding a rally at the GIC grounds that this time the elections would be fought on the issue of development. Since then, minister in-charge of this seat and cabinet minister Suresh Khanna and co-in-charge minister Nitin Aggarwal have been visiting regularly. Despite the atmosphere being BJP-oriented, candidate selection remained a big challenge. Sometimes the issue of Dalit candidate was coming up, sometimes Brahmin or Vaishya. Former MLA Rakesh Sonkar had also purchased the nomination paper and also met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Despite all this, the victory ultimately went to former candidate Suresh Awasthi. The party announced the name of Suresh Awasthi on Thursday. In such a situation, once again Suresh Awasthi will present a direct challenge to the Solanki family.

Solanki family has been winning six times

Irfan Solanki has been winning the Sisamau assembly seat for three consecutive times. Earlier this area was known as Arya Nagar Seat. In that too, Irfan Solanki has won once and before that his father Haji Mushtaq Solanki also became MLA twice. Thus, the Solanki family has been winning from this constituency for six consecutive times. This time once again the Solanki family is in the by-election and Irfan Solanki's wife Naseem Solanki is the SP candidate. The Solanki family has been winning from the Samajwadi Party for six consecutive times.

Defeated three times in factionalism

Under delimitation in 2009, there was a change in the areas of all the assembly seats of Kanpur. Till 2007, about 60 percent of the area of the seat which was known as Aryanagar went to Sisamau assembly. In such a situation, the Solanki family started contesting elections from Sisamau seat and Irfan Solanki became MLA for three consecutive times. All three times BJP lost due to factionalism, whereas BJP had a chance to win. The reason behind this is that after delimitation, about 40 percent of the Muslim population, who was an important voter of SP, moved to Aryanagar. Despite this, BJP is continuously facing defeat.

Suresh Awasthi is facing defeat twice.

When BJP made Suresh Awasthi a candidate from Sisamau seat in 2017, he had to face defeat. In such a situation, next time in 2022, to end the factionalism, the party gave ticket to Suresh Awasthi from Arya Nagar seat and gave ticket to Salil Vishnoi, who was contesting from Arya Nagar, from Sisamau. But factionalism did not end and both lost the elections. This time it was expected that BJP would play the Dalit card to win, but ultimately Suresh Awasthi was successful in becoming the candidate once again. However, tremendous preparations have been made by the BJP organization for the by-elections and the path for the Solanki family is not easy.

Lotus has not bloomed for 28 years

On Sisamau seat, the Ram Mandir wave blossomed for the first time in 1991 and party candidate Rakesh Sonkar won. After this, BJP's Rakesh Sonkar won twice more consecutively. After 1996, lotus did not bloom on this seat and this time in the by-election, BJP is trying to end the drought of 28 years.

There will be direct competition with SP

SP party is very strong in Sisamau seat and Solanki family is continuously winning. In the by-election, former MLA Irfan Solanki is certainly lodged in Maharajganj jail, but there is no less sympathy among the voters towards the Solanki family. Keeping this in view, SP has made his wife Naseem Solanki its candidate. It is not going to be easy for BJP to defeat Naseem on this seat which was held by SP. At present BJP is trying its best to capture this seat. In such a situation, it is believed that there will be a direct contest between Suresh Awasthi and Naseem Solanki.
