Supreme Court on NEET UG Result 2024: While hearing the petitions filed after the declaration of NEET results, the Supreme Court said that 1563 students who got grace marks will have to appear for the exam again. We will not stop counseling. For this, the Supreme Court has issued a notice and sought a reply in 2 weeks. Now the next hearing will be on July 8.
NTA has given the option to forget the grace marks after the re-examination
NTA had given only two options to 1563 students during the hearing in the Supreme Court, resulting in allegations of malpractice after grace marks. NTA said that these candidates can appear in NEET UG counseling without grace marks or appear in the NEET exam later. NTA can conduct NEET re-examination only for 1563 students who appeared at 6 exam centers.
What happened in the Supreme Court?
The NEET UG case is being heard by a bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta. The NTA has said that this decision is being taken to allay the fears of the students. The petitioners also demanded a stay on counseling. In brief, the court is considering 3 petitions challenging the results of NEET UG 2024, alleging irregularities and doubts regarding the granting of grace marking in the exam by the National Testing Agency to more than 1500 candidates on the basis of loss of time.
What issue was raised?
One of these petitions was filed by Alakh Pandey, CEO of Physics Wala. The petition filed claimed that the NTA's decision to award grace marks was “arbitrary”. Pandey reportedly collected representations from around 20,000 students, which revealed that at least 1,500 students were awarded 70-80 marks as grace marks.

Another petition related to the NEET UG exam was filed in the Supreme Court by SIO member Abdullah Mohammad Faiz and Dr. Sheikh Roshan Mohiddin. The petition filed demands withdrawal of NEET-UG 2024 result and re-conducting of the exam. The petitioners have alleged arbitrariness in giving grace marks.
Why the controversy?
A big controversy has arisen since the results of the NEET exam were announced. During the hearing in the Supreme Court today, NTA has informed about cancelling the grace marks. The NEET students who have been given grace marks will be considered valid. Such 1563 students will have two options, take the exam again or proceed with the marks without grace marks. The exam will be held again on June 23 and the result will come on June 30.
