Supreme Court reserved its decision on Patanjali's misleading advertisements, IMA Chairman also reprimanded

Patanjali misleading advertisement case: The Supreme Court on Tuesday (May 14) reserved its verdict on the contempt case against Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna. Both of them have apologized unconditionally to the court regarding the misleading advertisement of Patanjali. A public apology was also published in newspapers. Baba Ramdev is the promoter of Patanjali, while Acharya Balkrishna holds the post of Managing Director of the company.

Supreme Court also gave a big blow to the Chairman of IMA

During the hearing, the Supreme Court also criticized Dr. Ashok, Chairman of the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Ashok criticized the Supreme Court's remarks about allopathic doctors. Today he filed an apology in the court. However, the Supreme Court did not accept it. It is noteworthy that the petition against Patanjali regarding misleading advertisements was filed by IMA itself. After this the court directed Patanjil to apologize.

What happened in today's proceedings in the Supreme Court?

A bench of Supreme Court Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah asked Patanjali Ayurveda, 'What steps have they taken to stop the sale of the medicines whose licenses have been suspended and to withdraw them from the market.' The court asked Patanjali to file an affidavit in this regard. Responding on behalf of Patanjali, lawyer Balbir Singh said, 'We have stopped selling the product.' However, the Supreme Court has sought a reply in this matter within three weeks.

Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah said, 'People have faith in Baba Ramdev. People really listen to him. Justice Kohli told Ramdev, 'You and your team have made a huge contribution to yoga. But if we talk about Patanjali products then it is a different matter.

Who sued Patanjali?

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) filed a petition in the Supreme Court in August 2022. Patanjali said in an advertisement, 'Save yourself and the country from allopathy, pharma and medical industry.' Baba Ramdev also called allopathy a 'stupid and bankrupt science'. He claimed, 'Allopathic medicine is responsible for the deaths due to Covid-19.' Meanwhile, the Indian Medical Association has claimed that 'because of Patanjali, people are hesitant in getting vaccinated.'
