Supreme Court refuses to ban NEET counseling, asks this answer from NTA and Center

Supreme Court: An important hearing was held in the Supreme Court today regarding the cancellation of NEET UG 2024 exam. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhati heard the petition of NTA while transferring all the four petitions. The court has refused to stay the counseling. NTA said to issue notice and respond by July 8 and tag it with the pending petition.

NEET UG counseling will continue

The petitioner's lawyer requested the court to stop NEET UG counseling, but the bench refused. The bench said that we are not doing this. If the exam continues, then the counseling will also continue. Don't worry.

Talk of including students of Meghalaya examination center in the list of 1563

The lawyer said that this student had given the exam in Meghalaya centre, his 45 minutes were wasted, he should have been a part of the 1563 students so that he too could get a chance to give the NEET exam again. On this the Supreme Court said that let the union and NTA respond. The reply has to be filed by July 8.

Stop all hearings in the High Court

During the hearing, the lawyer said that we are seeking a stay from the High Court. On this, the bench said that there is no need for such a stay. We have already issued a notice. The Supreme Court has stayed all the cases pending in the High Court regarding NEET UG and has issued a notice. The next hearing will be on July 8.

The petitioners said that there were 31 to 39 applications. The court also talked about presenting fake records before the court. A notice has been sent regarding the transfer of the petitions filed in the High Court. The court also issued notice on other pending applications. All have been ordered to be listed for July 8. The bench put a stay on the hearing of all the NEET related petitions filed in the High Court.

If there is even 0.001 percent negligence, an investigation will be conducted

Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had stressed the need for strict action against any negligence in conducting the NEET-UG 2024 exam. A vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti said, “If there has been even 0.001 per cent negligence on anyone's part, it should be addressed thoroughly. All these cases should not be seen as adversarial litigation.”

Government response

The Ministry of Education has sought a detailed report from the Economic Offences Unit of Bihar Police regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 exam held in Patna. The ministry said on Wednesday that the concerns regarding the allocation of grace marks have been completely addressed.

Parental concerns

The students have raised issues related to alleged paper leak, granting of grace marks and anomalies in exam questions. On receiving the fresh applications, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and sought a reply within two weeks. These applications will be heard along with the existing applications on July 8.
