Kenya Violence: The Indian High Commission on Tuesday issued an advisory to all Indians as a precautionary measure in view of the ongoing violent incidents in the East African country of Kenya against the government's proposed tax hike.
Thousands of people unhappy with the tax hike in Kenya stormed the Parliament premises on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the police opened fire on the protesters trying to enter the Parliament. In which some people died and many were injured.
To avoid any untoward situation, the Indian High Commission in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, has issued an advisory to all Indians, stating that the situation here is tense, so all Indians are advised to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary movement and stay away from areas affected by demonstrations and violence.
Indian High Commission on social media platforms: Violence will continue until the situation normalises.”
In another post, the High Commission said, “Keep monitoring local news, Indian High Commission website and social media handles for latest information related to violence.”
According to a report, Kenyan President William Ruto has condemned the violent incidents and said that he will take a tough stand against 'violence and anarchy'. On the other hand, the United Nations has stressed that people have the right to protest peacefully. The US has urged the Kenyan government to exercise patience.
