Supreme Court gives big decision on driving license of car

This legal question became the reason for settlement of compensation cases by insurance companies in accident cases. In which transport vehicles were driven by LMV driving license holders.

Insurers said the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) and courts were ignoring their objections and ordering them to pay insurance claims.

Constitution bench of five judges gave the verdict

The Constitution Bench of five judges headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud gave this decision. A bench of Justice Hrishikesh Roy, Justice PS Narasimha, Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Manoj Mishra had reserved its decision on this issue on August 21. Meanwhile, Centre's counsel Attorney General R Venkataramani said that the discussion on amendment in the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act, 1988 is almost complete.

Now those who have a car license will also be able to drive tractors

Relief has been given to light motor vehicle license holders. This will help LMV license holders to make insurance claims. A person who drives a car can also drive road rollers and tractors. Provided that the weight of the vehicle is less than 7500 kg.

The Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court has upheld its 2017 decision. In 2017, the SC allowed Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) license holders to drive transport vehicles weighing up to 7500 kg.

On behalf of the Central Government, Attorney General R. Venkataramani said that many changes are proposed in the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. These can be presented in the winter session of Parliament. On this, the court said that lakhs of drivers of the country are working on the basis of the decision of the Disability case. This is not just a question of law.
