On this Patanjali admitted that he had made a mistake. On this the court said that you should answer for contempt of court. Balbir Singh, appearing on behalf of Ramdev, said that our apology is ready. So the bench asked why this was not on record. Balbir said that he is ready but we want to make necessary changes only when needed.
The bench said that despite the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court, advertisements are being given in newspapers and your client is seen in the advertisements. The Supreme Court said that you should not make excuses for serving the country.
Ramdev's lawyer said that this will not happen in future. Sorry for the earlier mistake. Ramdev also apologized to the court. He said that I am embarrassed by this behaviour. We understand that this is the order of the Supreme Court. The bench said that every court in the country should be respected.
The court said that you held a press conference within 24 hours of our order. Publishing this advertisement shows how you feel about the Court. On this, Ramdev's lawyer said that we have made a mistake. We are not turning our backs on it or hiding it. we accept. We apologize unconditionally.
The court has already condemned Patanjali's products
Before this, the Supreme Court has also condemned Patanjali's products. A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Amanullah also criticized him for not following earlier orders. Last year, the court had ordered the company to ban advertisements. In the month of November itself, the court had told Patanjali that if the order was not followed, then after investigation, a fine of Rs 1 crore would be imposed on all the products of the company.
Indian Medical Association (IMA) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court terming the advertisements of Patanjali Ayurved as misleading.
