London, August 19, (HS). British businessman Mike Lynch is missing after a superyacht sank following a strong storm off the coast of southern Italy. Recently, Lynch was acquitted in a fraud case of 11 billion dollars in the US. This information was shared by Italy's Civil Protection Agency.
The Bayesian, a 56-meter long luxury superyacht anchored near Porticello, east of Palermo, sank in the sea due to a sudden storm. According to Salvo Cocina of the Civil Protection Agency, Lynch's wife was among the 15 people rescued after the luxury yacht sank amid storm and rain off the coast of Sicily, while six others are missing.
Italian authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Lynch, 59, was acquitted by a San Francisco court in early June. He was accused of massive fraud related to the sale of his software firm Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard. Lynch co-founded Autonomy in 1996 in Cambridge. He was extradited from Britain to the US to stand trial on criminal charges.
Lynch also had to spend two decades in prison. He graduated from Cambridge University.
