New Delhi, May 17 (Hindustan Reporter) Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has become the third team to reach the playoffs of the Indian Premier League 2024. SRH became the third team to make it to the IPL 2024 playoffs after their match against Gujarat Titans on Thursday (May 16) was abandoned due to rain.
Due to the cancellation of the match, both the teams got 1 point each, leaving SRH with 15 points and they still have one match left against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 19. Delhi Capitals (DC)'s campaign now officially ends with SRH qualifying. With this, the fight for the fourth and last place is now between RCB and CSK.
This is Hyderabad's first playoff qualification since IPL 2020, after finishing last in the league in 2021 and 2023 and eighth in 2022.
However, Hyderabad's hopes of finishing in the top-two have been dealt a blow. They can still achieve it, and that is only if they have to beat PBKS and hope that Rajasthan Royals, who currently have 16 points, lose their last league match against table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders – But it is no longer completely in their hands.
Gujarat's campaign, meanwhile, ended on a disappointing note, with their last two matches – against KKR at home on May 13 and this match in Hyderabad – abandoned without a single ball being bowled. They finished the season with 12 points, which currently puts them third from bottom, but they could slip one place if PBKS beats SRH.
