On which Mayor Sunita Dayal has made it clear that property tax bills will not be issued on the basis of DM circle rate. The Municipal Corporation Board has passed a rule to increase property tax by ten percent every two years, any amendment in it can be done only with the approval of the Board. In such a situation, the decision whether property tax will increase in the coming days or not will be taken in the Municipal Corporation House.
In the executive meeting held on February 15, the Municipal Corporation had decided to increase the property tax from April 1, 2024 as per the status quo. Meanwhile, in the last three-four days, complaints are being received in zonal offices about property tax not being collected at the old rates. Taking cognizance of the complaints, the Mayor has clarified that property tax will not increase from the DM circle rate. There will be a discussion in the board meeting on how much the property tax will increase and when. The proposal passed by the board will be implemented.
Many councilors said that people who had gone to deposit house tax a few days ago were turned back after being told to pay tax at the old rates. However, the position on the new rates was also not clarified. Bills have not been sent by the corporation, it has also come to notice that slips for increased tax are being prepared and given on the spot.
In this matter, the Mayor has said in clear words that the house tax is increased every two years and if the house tax is increased now, it is wrong as per the rules and talks will be held with everyone and this type of burden will not be put on the public.
