Sunil Jakhar resigned: There was a discussion going on in Punjab for a long time that BJP is preparing to change its president and is looking for such a face whose hold is equal in village and city, hence the news has come that Sunil Jakhar has resigned from Punjab BJP. Has resigned from the post of Chairman.
Sunil Jakhar was given this responsibility a year ago. With Jakhar's resignation, BJP has become presidentless before the Panchayat elections. Sources close to Jakhar and sources in BJP's Punjab unit and national organization have also confirmed Jakhar's resignation.
Jakhar was also absent from the important meeting of the party called today to discuss and formulate strategy regarding the Panchayat elections. According to sources, a senior official of Punjab BJP called Jakhar regarding attending today's meeting and he said that he will not attend any meeting today or in future as the state president of the party.
When Jakhar was directly contacted about this, he refused to comment on his resignation. He said that this is an internal matter of the party. Sources said that the BJP leadership has not yet accepted Jakhar's resignation. If sources are to be believed, after the Jalandhar by-election in July, Jakhar had informed the party high command including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party national president JP Nadda that he did not want to take up the responsibility as state president.
Jakhar has not attended any meeting of Punjab BJP since July 10. He is also missing from the party's membership campaign in Punjab. Sources within the party said that Jakhar was feeling uncomfortable with some traditional BJP leaders and often did not seek their opinion on planning and strategy. During the recent Lok Sabha elections, BJP failed to win even a single seat from Punjab and the party had to face embarrassment in the by-elections.
