Shri Maurya said that under the Pradhan Mantri Shahri Awas Yojana, assistance up to Rs 2.5 lakh is provided to the eligible beneficiaries for house construction. In view of this, the Government of India has been requested to provide a sum of Rs 2.5 lakh for the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Rural, keeping in mind the geographical conditions and construction cost of the plains and hilly areas. This will help in reducing the gap between housing assistance received by beneficiaries in urban and rural areas. He said that it is the priority of the government to provide respectable, safe and convenient housing to poor families even in rural areas. Construction costs can be high in mountainous areas due to transportation of construction materials and other geographical difficulties, so increasing housing assistance will provide special benefits to needy families. The Prime Minister launched this scheme from Agra on 20 November 2016, Uttar Pradesh has so far received the allocation of about 43 lakh houses. Out of 36.56 lakh houses sanctioned till last year, construction of 36.40 lakh houses has been completed. Thus, the housing completion rate in the state is 99.55 percent. He said that the state has also made significant progress in works like providing lease to landless eligible beneficiaries, mason training, inspection through Area Officer App and social audit.

In view of the large number of eligible families, he requested to consider increasing the housing target to at least 10 lakh this year and increasing the assistance amount of ₹ 1.20 lakh per house as per the current construction cost.
