BJP has won the Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh. BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan defeated Congress's Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Even after cross voting, both got 34-34 votes. After which the winner was decided by toss. In Himachal, 6 Congress MLAs had cross-voted for BJP. 3 independent MLAs also voted in favor of the BJP candidate. After cross voting, the Congress government in Himachal is in danger of falling. CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu alleged that Haryana Police has taken away 5-6 Congress MLAs.
The names of Congress MLAs who cross-voted in Himachal are Rajinder Rana of Sujanpur, Sudhir Sharma of Dharamshala, Devendra Bhutto of Kutalhar, ID Lakhanpal of Barsar, Ravi Thakur of Lahaul-Spiti and Chaitanya Sharma of Gagret. In the morning before voting, all of them reached the assembly in the same vehicle. The party is not able to contact him immediately after voting.
Three independent MLAs from Himachal were earlier talking about supporting Congress, but they cross-voted for BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan. These independent candidates include Ashish Sharma of Hamirpur, Hoshiar Singh of Dehra and KL Thakur of Nalagarh. CRPF security is being given to these independent MLAs including 6 Congress MLAs.
After cross voting, the party is not able to contact 6 Congress MLAs. On this, CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu told the media, “The way counting has started and opposition leader Jairam Thakur is threatening the counting officer, it is not a good sign for democracy. The Chief Minister has advised Himachal BJP leaders to be patient.”
CM Sukhu said that Himachal MLAs have been taken away by CRPF and Haryana Police. His family members are contacting him. He accused BJP of hooliganism. The Chief Minister claimed that Congress has absolute majority. The culture of Himachal does not like the dirty game that BJP is playing.
