26-year-old Sukhjit Singh Sukha, a resident of Jawandpur village of Mianwind village in Tarn Taran, has been selected in the Indian hockey team to participate in the Olympic Games to be held in Paris in July. There is a wave of happiness in the village after receiving the information. Currently Sukhjit Singh is in the Indian hockey team camp in Bengaluru.
Villagers said that Sukhjit Singh was born in Jawandpur village. His father Ajit Singh is in Punjab Police. His father, who is himself a hockey player, joined Punjab Police 25 years ago. After which the family had to move to Jalandhar. Sukhjot's uncle Bhita Singh, a resident of Jawandpur village, said that Ajit was fond of playing hockey. Which he has fulfilled along with his son, Sukhjit's hard work since childhood has been completed today.
Uncle Bhita Singh said that Sukhjeet's training started at the age of 8. In 2006, he was admitted to the state government-run hockey academy set up in Mohali. Sukhjeet's influence also affected his family. Uncle Bhita Singh has two sons and both are hockey players. One is part of the academy run by the SGPC, while the other plays for an academy in Mohali.
Apart from Sukhjeet's uncle Bhita Singh, Sarpanch SP Singh of village Jawandpur, hockey coach Balkar Singh, Sarpanch Didar Singh Mianwind, resident of village Ghasitpur and other local residents believe that Sukhjeet Singh's hard work has been successful. The way he adopted hockey at the age of 8 and worked hard, he has got the fruits of it today. Currently Sukhjeet is present in a camp in Bengaluru. Sukhjeet's dream was to reach the Olympics. Now if hockey once again does wonders in the Olympics, the whole village will be proud.
