Kolkata, 19 February (HS). Regarding the Sandeshkhali incident, State BJP President Sukant Majumdar has written a letter to the National Commission for Women complaining that in this case the police has ignored the law and revealed the name of the victim. In a letter written to National Commission for Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma on Monday, Sukant Majumdar mentioned that the state police has disregarded the Supreme Court order and made the name of the Sandeshkhali victim public.
When the victim was brought to the magistrate's office in Sandeshkhali, the state police made a video to record her statement. Later that video was also posted on the X handle of Kolkata Police. Sukant claims that the name of the victim has been mentioned in the video and her face has been shown. Sukant Majumdar further alleged that the video clearly shows that the woman is being forced to come to the magistrate's office with the help of the state police.
Soon after the state BJP president's letter came out, the controversial video post was no longer visible on the Kolkata Police's X handle.
It is noteworthy that in the Sandeshkhali case, Shibprasad Hazra alias Shibu Hazra was arrested by the state police on Saturday. On the basis of the woman's complaint, Section 164 of the Indian Penal Code was added against Shibu Hazra. Sukant Majumdar has said in the letter that Kolkata Police has disregarded the order of the Supreme Court. Filing an FIR against the state police will only waste time. Therefore, he has demanded strict action against DG Rajeev Kumar and the police officers involved in this incident.
