Renowned sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik won the Golden Sand Master Award at the international championship held in Russia on Friday. The International Sand Sculpture Championship was held at the iconic Peter and Paul Fortress in St Petersburg from July 4 to 12. 21 eminent sculptors of the world participated in the event.
Sudarshan has expressed happiness on receiving this award. I am really happy to win the Gold Medal as well as the Golden Sand Master Award at the International Sand Sculpture Championship/Festival here. It is a matter of great pride that my sand art has been appreciated across the country. Patnaik created a 12 feet high statue of Lord Jagannath riding a chariot along with his devotee Balaram Das. Balaram Das was a famous Oriya poet of the 14th century.
Let us tell you that meanwhile the Indian Embassy in Moscow has congratulated Patnaik for this achievement. Awarded with Padma Shri award, Patnaik has participated in more than 65 international sand art competitions around the world. He is trying to give a social message by making sand sculptures.
