Success Story of Progressive Farmer: Efforts are being made by the Gujarat Government and the Central Government to increase natural farming. This is the reason why many farmers in Gujarat are becoming role models for other farmers by doing successful organic farming.
Today we are going to talk about one such farmer. This farmer has broken new ground by successfully doing organic farming with indigenous cows and modern technology.
Young farmer Pawan Patel of Bhaner village of Kathlal taluk of Kheda district is cultivating vegetables and fruits on his 25 Vedha land. Even after completing good studies like B.Sc., Pawan Patel came into farming and started new experiments.
Pawan Patel has earned an income of Rs 4 lakh through natural farming by planting gilodi and cucumber in 3 types of land from his land.
Pawan Patel, who has been doing organic farming since 2017, has blended tradition and modernity in farming. Pawan Patel has adopted a unique method of making Jeevamrit with the help of four local cows. He has developed a 200 liter capacity Jeevamrit plant at a cost of Rs 25 thousand, in which Jeevamrit is prepared by taking cow dung, urine, boiled rice, biopaste, desi jaggery and buttermilk as inputs.
This carcass is easily and quickly transported to the field through a venturi setup and pipeline system. Moreover, cow urine is collected in an underground tank and fed directly into the plant through a connection, thereby easing the labor of manpower.
Pawan Patel has planted crops like saffron mango, gilori, vegetables and sugarcane. He has planted saffron mango in five bighas, sweet potato in three bighas, cucumber in one and a half bigha, sugarcane in half a bigha and gilodi in two fields.
Last season, he had received a compensation of about three and a half lakh rupees in Gilori crop and fifty thousand rupees in cucumber crop. At present he has planted tomato, brinjal, chilli, guar, sandalwood, fenugreek and radish as intercrops in three bighas.
To encourage Pawan Patel, crop planting subsidy has been given by Kheda District Horticulture Department. In which farmers have been helped to become self-reliant by giving subsidy of Rs 40 thousand for Gilodi Mandap and Rs 80 thousand for mango cultivation.
Pawan Patel’s farm, which meets the basic parameters of agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry, has also received government recognition as a natural model farm.
Pawan Patel does not limit himself to just production but adds value to his produce and sells it directly through Srishti Innovation Institute in Ahmedabad.
Talking about the importance of organic farming he says, “Chemical fertilizers are a threat to human health. Organic farming maintains soil fertility, gives good returns and protects the environment.”
Today, while on one hand there is a plethora of such youth who spend their youth only in hobbies and addictions, on the other hand, such courageous youth who work on a serious subject like natural farming actually become guides for the society.
