Successful candidates got angry at Project Bhawan after the exam was canceled and said – they came on the streets due to sudden loss of job.

These days, there is a fierce battle between the politics and youth of Jharkhand regarding the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination of Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). Now a new controversy has arisen after the state government decided to cancel the examination and end the appointments related to the outsourcing agency. On one hand, the students who have been protesting for a long time alleging rigging in the examination have heaved a sigh of relief, while on the other hand, the anger of the selected candidates who got government jobs by passing this examination has erupted. Faced with the fear of losing their jobs overnight and the future crisis, hundreds of successful candidates demonstrated strongly outside Ranchi’s Chief Secretariat ‘Project Bhawan’ and expressed strong opposition to this decision of the government. The candidates say that they had got their jobs through hard work and through the legal process, hence canceling the examination en masse is sheer injustice.

The trend of politics and protest changed after the Chief Minister’s decision

This major step was taken after a high-level cabinet meeting chaired by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The government announced the cancellation of all competitive examinations and results conducted by the TPDL agency since 2014, including the JSSC-CGL examination, following alleged irregularities and complaints. After this announcement, the students sitting on strike at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in the capital Ranchi started celebrating. But as soon as this order came out, the ground slipped from under the feet of those youth who were serving in various departments after passing this examination. The selected youth went to Project Bhawan without any delay and after reaching there raised anti-government slogans and strongly demanded withdrawal of their decision.

Pain of successful candidates: Got the job on the orders of the court

Expressing their pain, the successful candidates protesting outside the project building amidst rain and tight security said that they have achieved this position not because of any dole or recommendation, but after long legal battles and court orders. While talking to the media, many candidates said that to get this government job, they had left their already good private and other government posts. One candidate tearfully said that he had left a good job in places like LIC and Food Corporation (FCI) to join this post, but this one shock from the government has brought him on the streets. He says that if the government had to investigate, it should have taken action against selected people found corrupt or guilty, and not cancel the entire process and put everyone’s future in darkness.

Preparation to fight legal battle and announcement of going to court

The angry selected candidates have made it clear that they are not going to remain silent against this arbitrary and one-sided decision. He says that this decision also disregards the instructions and decisions of the Honorable High Court and the Supreme Court under which his appointments were made. The protesters have warned that they will once again approach the court for justice and will try every possible legal and democratic trick to save their jobs. He also argues that if there were some flaws in the system then there should be a transparent investigation, but weighing all the successful candidates in the same scale without any concrete evidence is completely against the principles of natural justice.

Difficulties of state government and administration increased

On one hand, student organizations and other candidates are adamant on demanding comprehensive reforms in the entire system and a CBI inquiry, on the other hand, this new protest by the youth who have lost their jobs has become a big headache for the government and administration. Due to the sudden exit of these selected youth from various government offices and departments of Jharkhand, it is feared that the administrative work will be affected. Frequent meetings are going on by senior officials and ministers to handle the situation at the administrative level. However, this whole incident of Jharkhand’s competitive examinations may gain more momentum in the coming days, because students from both the sides have decided to fight one-on-one to protect their rights.
