Sub Junior National Rowing Championship: Odisha's best performance in heats

Gorakhpur, 24 October (Hindustan Reporter). Odisha secured its entry into the next round with its best performance in four categories of heats (preliminary round) on the first day of the 25th Sub Junior National Rowing Championship. In the competitions held at Ramgarh Tal in Gorakhpur, Telangana and Haryana won the heats of three categories. Along with this, West Bengal A, Maharashtra A, Haryana A, Kerala and Kerala A also performed best in the heats of two categories. On the first day, a total of 33 heat round competitions were held in various categories.

The teams standing first in all the heat matches held on Thursday secured a place in the next round, while players from other teams will get another chance through the repechage round. On the first day of the competitions on Thursday, chief guest Kushinagar MP Vijay Kumar Dubey along with special guests Sahajanwan MLA Pradeep Shukla and Bansgaon MLA Vimlesh Paswan also encouraged the participating players.

On this occasion, Uttar Pradesh Rowing Association President Rani Pakshalika Singh (BJP MLA), Uttar Pradesh Rowing Association Secretary Sudhir Sharma and Organizing Secretary Puneet Kumar were also present. In the events held on the first day, Odisha showed speed in the first lane in Under-13 Boys Double Sculls and secured the first position with a time of 1:54.85. In this category, Telangana stood second and Tamil Nadu A stood third.

After this, Odisha secured first position in the heat of sub-junior girls coxless four. Whereas Kerala B team stood second and Kerala A team stood third. In the sub junior boys double sculls heat, Odisha stood first with a time of 1:28.62, Tamil Nadu B stood second with a time of 1:58.52 and Uttar Pradesh stood third with a time of 2:28.56. In sub junior girls double sculls, Odisha girls stood first with a time of 1:59.40, Maharashtra stood second with a time of 2:09.42 and Haryana stood third with a time of 2:31.26.

In Under-13 boys double sculls, Haryana stood first with a time of 1:50.28, Punjab stood second with a time of 1:59.85 and Maharashtra A stood third with a time of 2:11.36. In sub junior girls single sculls, Haryana stood first with a time of 2:09.27, Maharashtra A stood second with a time of 2:10.61 and Jharkhand stood third with a time of 2:29.31. In sub-junior boys single sculls, Haryana stood first, Maharashtra stood second and Assam B stood third. In sub-junior girls coxless pairs, Telangana stood first, Haryana second, West Bengal third. In sub-junior boys coxless pairs, Telangana stood first, Maharashtra B stood second. In sub junior boys double sculls, Telangana stood first, Maharashtra A stood second and Jharkhand stood third. Apart from this, teams of West Bengal A, Maharashtra A, Punjab, Kerala and Kerala B also secured first position in two categories each.
