Canada Visa Rules: The craze for studying abroad is at its peak among Indian students. Meanwhile, Canada has ruined the dreams of students by changing its visa rules. Since then, students are now looking for an alternative country instead of Canada where they can study and improve their lives.
Last week Canada ended its fast-track student visa system. Under which, in the year 2023, most of the Indian students went to study in Canada. The Student Direct Stream (SDS) and Nigeria Student Express scheme, which covers 16 countries including India, had much shorter processing times and higher approval rates than the regular visa process.
Last year, Canada relaxed its Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). This gave many students the opportunity to find work and eventually become permanent residents of the country. In January this year, Canada announced a two-year limit on new international student permits, which does not apply to master’s and PhD programs.
Most Indians in Canada
The thing to note here is that the Ministry of External Affairs data shows that on January 1, there were 4.27 lakh Indian students in Canada, which was more than any other country. At that time there were more than 3.37 lakh students in America, 1.85 lakh in Britain and 1.22 lakh in Australia. Germany, France and Ireland have the highest number of Indian students in the European Union.
Indian students are decreasing
The number of Indian international students enrolling in US universities declined by 13 percent between 2016 and 2019. However, Canadian universities have seen an increase of 182 percent.
This is according to an analysis of immigration data published by the National Foundation for American Policy, a US think tank. More restrictive immigration and international student policies and difficulty obtaining a green card in the United States were significant factors in April.
