Jaunpur, 03 October (HS). A first year student has made serious allegations of sexual harassment against Sudhir Kumar Upadhyay, a contractual teacher of the Environmental Science Department of Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University. The police have registered a case on this based on the student's complaint. It is said that even before this, many girl students had accused Sudhir of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour, which was resolved within the university. This is the first time that a student has shown courage and adopted the legal path.
The student has said in her complaint that Sudhir Kumar Upadhyay, a contractual teacher of the Environmental Science Department, used to call her every day between 7:30 and 8 pm. They used to try to talk obscenely on the phone and repeatedly pressurized them to make video calls. He also asked the student several times what she was wearing and when the student told that she was wearing shorts, the professor insisted on making a video call. Saying he wanted to see where the shorts were worn.
The student further alleged that the professor mentally tortured her several times and also humiliated her in front of other students. They often did not come to classes on time and indulged in inappropriate conduct. The teacher is a person with a dirty mentality. Many girl students have been troubled due to his behavior. The student has demanded strict action from the university administration and police. The police have registered a case against the professor under various sections and started investigating the matter.
This is not the first time that such serious allegations have been made against contract teacher Sudhir Kumar Upadhyay. From 2020 till now, many girl students have filed complaints against him. In 2020, Sudhir was accused of not taking classes properly. Others speak ill of teachers and ask for bribes.
In the same year, another student had accused Sudhir of sexual harassment. In which, upon investigation, inappropriate messages and demands for photo-videos were revealed on WhatsApp. In 2022 also, an MSc student had complained of mental harassment and inappropriate behavior.
In the latest case, police station in-charge Raj Narayan Chaurasia said that on the basis of the student's complaint, an FIR has been registered against the professor. The previous activities of the accused professor are also being investigated. The police are thoroughly investigating this matter.
Area officer Sadar Parmanand Kushwaha told the media that a student in the university alleged that a professor of the environment department calls her at night. They are forced to talk obscenely through video calls and are tortured. He was harassed in the class room for not talking. Insults are made in front of all the students. After receiving the complaint from the said student, a case has been registered under relevant sections. Critical proceedings are prevalent. However, Professor Anoop Goyal, Chairman of the Sexual Harassment Committee of the University Administration, is also investigating this matter.
