Strictness in security and traffic around India Gate and Saket Mall on New Year, police issued advisory

On the occasion of New Year, a large number of people are likely to reach major places in Delhi on January 1. Crowd is expected especially in areas like India Gate, Dutta Path, Zoo and Saket Mall. In view of this, Delhi Police has made strict security arrangements and the Traffic Police has issued a detailed advisory. For smooth flow of traffic, restrictions may be imposed on vehicular movement around India Gate and Saket Mall.

Restrictions around India Gate and C-Hexagon

Every year on New Year, a large number of people gather at India Gate, due to which traffic is disrupted.

  • If the crowd becomes excessive then the movement of vehicles in C-Hexagon and surrounding areas will be completely stopped.
  • Police have appealed to people to use public transport to come to India Gate, as parking facilities are limited.
  • Routes to be diverted:
    • Alternative routes will be used from Q Point, Sunehri Masjid, Janpath, Rajpath-Rafi Marg, Windsor Place, Rajendra Prasad Road, and Mathura Road.

Crowd and restrictions around Saket Mall

There is also a possibility of crowd gathering near Select City Mall of Saket. The traffic police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions on some roads.

  • Affected areas:
    • Press Enclave Road, Saket and internal roads of Pushp Vihar.
    • The medians/cuts between Sheikh Sarai and Hauz Rani will remain closed.
    • Movement of DTC and cluster buses will be restricted on the affected stretches of Press Enclave Road.
  • Diversion:
    • Chirag Delhi to Mehrauli via MB Road via Khanpur Red Light instead of Press Enclave Road.
    • Traffic from PTS to Press Enclave Road will be diverted towards Aurobindo Marg.

Possibility of traffic jam at other crowded places

  • Zoo and Mathura Road: There will be heavy traffic pressure on Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg due to people visiting the zoo.
  • Connaught Place: A large number of people will gather here for New Year celebrations, which may disrupt traffic.
  • Hanuman Temple and Bangla Sahib Gurudwara: There is a possibility of crowding at these religious places also.
