Strict action will be taken against false and misleading posts on social media: Aastha Modi

Fatehabad, 18 May (HS). Superintendent of Police Aastha Modi has given strict instructions to all the police officers and station in-charges of the district to keep a close watch on social and electronic media. On Saturday he said that Lok Sabha elections in the state are scheduled to be held on May 25. It is the responsibility of the police to conduct the elections in an atmosphere of peace and harmony in the district in compliance with the guidelines received from the Election Commission. On such occasions, anti-social elements also take the help of social media and harm social harmony by misleading the general public by posting and propagating false and misleading posts on social media.

SP Aastha Modi said that such false and sensational posts promote the feeling of dissatisfaction in the society, while the law and order situation is also likely to deteriorate. He said that such anti-social elements also try to instigate people personally. In this regard, strict instructions have been given to all police officers to keep a close watch on such people and keep the intelligence system on high alert. He said that instructions have been given to strictly curb any kind of fake or sensationalist posts among the people and to identify those spreading such posts or rumors and take effective action.

He said that misleading and false news and posts spoil the atmosphere in the area and also pose a threat to law and order. The Superintendent of Police has also appealed to the general public not to forward any post or video without knowing the truth and to avoid rumours. He said that anti-social elements mislead the common people, youth and students and instigate them to do illegal activities, be careful of such people. Reiterating the commitment of the district police to conduct the elections in the district peacefully and in a cordial atmosphere, the SP has also appealed to the people of the district for cooperation. Instructions have also been issued by the Superintendent of Police to all the station in-charges that to stop the spread of misleading propaganda on social media, as many people and youth as possible should be made aware about this.
