Haridwar, 27 July (HS). A huge quantity of illegal liquor has been seized from Har ki Pauri area during the Kanwar fair. This action was taken by a joint team of police, PAC and RPF deployed on fair duty. Two liquor smugglers have been arrested by the police. One of the accused was dressed as a Kanwariya. It is believed that illegal liquor was stored taking advantage of the crowd of Kanwariyas. It was to be sold at a higher price than normal days during the fair itself.
This business was going on in Ganga Giri's Haveli in Har Ki Pauri area. Illegal liquor was kept hidden inside the Dharamshala. The arrested accused have revealed their names as Vikram Giri and Sonu.
Har Ki Pauri Chowki in-charge Sanjeev Chauhan said that two accused Sonu son of Chhotelal resident of Kabaddi Basti Kotwali Nagar district Haridwar, age 54 years, Vikram Giri son of Pawan Giri resident of Ganga Giri Ki Haveli Har Ki Pauri Kotwali Nagar district Haridwar, age 30 years have been arrested from Ganga Giri Ki Haveli. Three accused a woman, the woman's daughter and Ankit son of Pardeshi have fled from the spot. The police is searching for them. 570 bottles of English liquor, 175 bottles of country liquor, 20 cans of beer have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
