Stock market in consolidation mood, trading continues in limited range | News India

New Delhi, August 19 (HS). After Friday's strong rally, the domestic stock market was in a mood of consolidation on the first day of the week. The stock market traded in a limited range throughout the day. After the day's trading, the Sensex closed with a decline of 0.02 percent while the Nifty ended today's trading with a gain of 0.13 percent.

Today, there was strong buying in the stocks of oil and gas, energy and metal sectors. Similarly, IT, Public Sector Enterprise and Pharmaceutical index also managed to close with gains. There was continuous selling in the automobile and banking sectors today. Buying remained strong in the broader market today, due to which the BSE midcap index closed with a gain of 0.53 percent. Similarly, the smallcap index ended today's trading by jumping 1.33 percent.

Despite the market trading in a limited range today, the wealth of stock market investors increased by about Rs 3 lakh crore due to buying in midcap and smallcap shares. The market capitalization of companies listed on BSE increased to Rs 454.57 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading. On the last trading day of last week i.e. Friday, their market capitalization was Rs 451.59 lakh crore. In this way, investors made a profit of about Rs 2.98 lakh crore from today's trading.

There was active trading in 4,165 shares on BSE during today's trading. Of these, 2,710 shares closed with a gain while 1,322 shares showed a decline and 133 shares closed without any fluctuation. There was active trading in 2,173 shares on NSE today. Of these, 1,784 shares closed in the green zone after making profits and 389 shares closed in the red zone after incurring losses. Similarly, out of the 30 shares included in Sensex, 18 shares closed with a gain and 12 shares closed with a decline. Out of the 50 shares included in Nifty, 30 shares closed in the green zone and 20 shares closed in the red zone.

The BSE Sensex opened today with a gain of 243.41 points at 80,680.25 points. In the initial trade, the index managed to jump to 80,724.40 points with the support of buying. This boom in the stock market could not last long, as profit booking started in the first hour of trading itself. Due to continuous selling, the Sensex lost all its gains and fell to 80,332.65 points with a weakness of 104.19 points. However, after this, due to the support of buying, the Sensex recovered more than 90 points from the lower level and closed at 80,424.68 points with a slight decline of 12.16 points.

Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty also started trading today with a gain of 95.20 points at 24,636.35 points. As soon as the market opened, profit booking started and this index also declined. Due to continuous selling, this index slipped down to 24,522.95 points with a weakness of 18.20 points. However, after this, due to buying support, Nifty ended today's trading at 24,572.65 points with a strength of 31.50 points.

After the day's buying and selling, among the big stocks of the stock market, Hindalco Industries 3.89 percent, BPCL 3.40 percent, Shriram Finance 3.16 percent, Tata Steel 2.97 percent and LT Mindtree 2.02 percent were included in the list of today's top 5 gainers. Mahindra & Mahindra 2.65 percent, Indusind Bank 1.21 percent, Bajaj Auto 1.19 percent, Axis Bank 1.17 percent and SBI Life Insurance 1.03 percent were included in the list of today's top 5 losers.
