A major security crisis has emerged near the India-Pakistan international border in Sriganganagar, a border district of Rajasthan. A suspicious explosion took place on the railway track on the Anupgarh-Suratgarh railway section near 50 GB village under Ramsinghpur police station area. The blast was so severe that two concrete pillars supporting the railway track and several sleepers were badly damaged. Due to the explosion, a crater about two feet deep was formed under the track and its echo was heard up to a distance of about 200 meters. However, it is a matter of relief that there was no loss of life because the passenger train had already passed safely through this track.
According to primary information, a passenger train going from Anupgarh towards Suratgarh passed through this track at around 9 pm. There was a massive explosion about 45 minutes after the train left the scene. If this explosion had happened some time earlier, a major railway accident could have occurred. There was no news of any untoward incident or casualty as the track was empty at the time of the incident. After hearing the sound of the explosion, the local villagers informed the railway administration and the police, after which the railway traffic was immediately stopped.
Considering the seriousness of the explosion and its proximity to the India-Pakistan border, all the top security agencies have come on alert mode:
-
ATS and CID teams deployed: Top officials of Rajasthan Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have reached the spot.
-
FSL and Dog Squad: Forensic Science Lab (FSL) and dog squad teams have collected soil, gunpowder samples and metal pieces from the spot for investigation.
-
Types of Explosives Investigated: Security agencies are thoroughly investigating what type of explosive material was used in the blast and whether it was a premeditated conspiracy by any terrorist or anti-social gang to target the Railways.
Immediately after the incident, North Western Railways has temporarily suspended train operations on Anupgarh-Suratgarh rail route in view of security. Trains passing through this route have been canceled or partially canceled (short-terminated). Railway technical engineers and maintenance teams are busy repairing the tracks after the completion of the preliminary investigation by the security agencies, so that rail traffic can be restored as soon as possible.
After this blast in the border area, vigilance and patrolling has been increased on the western border with Punjab and Rajasthan.
