Mumbai: A passenger boat going from Mumbai’s Gateway of India to Elephanta collided with a naval boat on Wednesday evening. 13 people were injured in this accident. Therefore 99 people were saved. The condition of the remaining two is now critical. Natharam Chaudhary, who survived the accident, lodged a complaint with the Colaba police. The police registered a case in the name of the driver of the Navy speed boat and other responsible parties and conducted further investigation in the matter.
The Navy said that around 4 pm, a speed boat of the Navy lost control during engine testing and collided with the Neelkamal boat. The incident happened near Karanja near Mumbai.
Neelkamal left for Elephanta from Gateway of India at around 3.30 pm on Wednesday afternoon. There were more than 100 passengers on board the plane. As the ferry boat reached Karanja, the passenger boat filled with water and collided with a Navy speed boat and capsized.
A search and rescue operation was launched by the Navy in coordination with the Coast Guard and Marine Police following the incident. The rescue operation was carried out by four naval helicopters, 11 naval ships, one coast guard boat and three marine police boats.
People rescued by naval and civil craft in the area were brought to the ghat and shifted to 12 different hospitals in Mumbai for treatment. In which 101 people have been saved so far.
In this accident, 13 people including a Navy personnel and two employees of Original Equipment Manufacturing who were traveling on the Navy’s speed boat died.
According to Mumbai Police, the dead include seven men, four women and two children.
Natharam Chaudhary, a 22-year-old resident of Sakinaka area, who survived the accident, lodged a complaint at the Colaba police station late in the night.
Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the Navy speed boat driver and others responsible for the accident under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code causing death by negligence, endangering the personal safety or life of others, negligent navigation and wrongful navigation. Case registered for causing an accident. harm to individuals or the public and further investigation into the matter was carried out.
The police have conducted a thorough investigation in this matter. In this case, the police also recorded the statements of 10 people who remained in the investigation. Then the crashed Neelkamal boat will also be examined by experts.
Let us tell you that this was the second accident done by the Navy within a month. On 21 November, INS Karanj, a submarine, collided with FV Marthoma, a fishing vessel, in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Goa, causing an accident. Two people died in this accident.
